Collect the onion skins

Every year in January I start collecting onion skins.

The reason I am doing it is that by Easter time I will have collected enough onion skins to use them for decorating Easter Eggs. The method I use is an old Polish folk method of decorating the eggs using hot wax and dying them using boiled onion skins. The decorated eggs look stunning on Easter table and can be eaten eventually.

I will explain the method in full detail in the end of March / beginning of April. If you would like to have a go at it, start collecting the onion skins now.

Happy collecting :)

  2. Hi Elisabet.
I use a lot onions when cooking too. If you collect a lot of the onion skins you can make the dye which is very dark red color.

I didn't know it was called granny squares. I learned to do them so long ago that I don't remember who taught me.. When I finish my bedspread I will post exact instructions how to do it and explain how to do granny squares.

In the meantime, I guess you could find this information in a book. For example "Crochet inspiration" by Sasha Kagan is a very good book.

    Love to you
